Master’s Thesis Submission

Guidelines for Submitting a Topic and Thesis Proposal for a Master’s Thesis

Before submitting the thesis proposal, students must first submit their index (student record book) to the Second Cycle Studies Office to verify the academic file with all course applications (no later than one week before submitting the thesis proposal). A prerequisite for submission is the completion of all required exams.

The candidate may propose a Master’s thesis topic from the area covered by the corresponding study program. The candidate may also choose a potential mentor from the list of accredited mentors within the respective program.

The candidate submits an application for the development of the Master’s thesis to the Teaching-Scientific Council of the Faculty of Economics – Skopje, through the Second Cycle Studies Council and the Program Collegium of the specific second cycle program in which the student is enrolled, no later than 10 days before a scheduled session of the Teaching-Scientific Council of the Faculty of Economics – Skopje. The Teaching-Scientific Council usually meets once a month, typically on the last Friday of the month.

Applications received after this deadline will not be reviewed on an ad hoc basis by the Program Collegium, but will instead be considered at the next session.

The Master’s thesis application (thesis proposal) must be submitted to the Archive Office of the Faculty of Economics – Skopje in:

2 hard copies (not bound, printed double-sided), signed on the title page by both the potential mentor and the candidate.

1 electronic version on a CD in PDF format.

The thesis proposal must include the following five parts:

  • A cover letter from the candidate stating the title of the thesis (one page),

  • Proposed thesis content (2–3 pages),

  • Explanation of the scientific and professional justification of the topic (2–3 pages),

  • Outline or plan for presenting the material (2–3 pages),

  • Review of the literature (3–4 pages).

Detailed instructions for each of the above five sections are provided in the template.

A student who has successfully fulfilled the obligations prescribed by the study program and earned 60 credits will, upon the defense of the Master’s thesis, obtain the academic title of Master of Economic or Organizational Sciences in the relevant field. The diploma is signed by the Dean of the Faculty and the Rector of the University. In addition to the diploma, the student will receive a Certificate of Passed Exams.

Master’s students have the right to complete their studies according to the conditions and study program under which they enrolled, within a period that is at most twice the prescribed duration of the program. If the student does not complete the studies within this extended period, additional conditions and deadlines for completing the studies will be determined by a decision of the relevant unit of the University. (See the Statute of UKIM – Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje.)
